Erika Mascota is a first-generation Latina marine scientist and aquarist based in Northern California. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from California State University, Long Beach, and works in aquatic animal care while continuing to build experience in marine conservation, field research, and environmental education. Outside of her work, she enjoys shark research, exploring nature, volunteering with environmental organizations, and learning more about the ecosystems around her. As an EarthEcho Marine Plastics Ambassador, Erika has developed experience in grassroots environmental advocacy and youth-led policy engagement. She is excited to become an EarthEcho Water Challenge Ambassador to expand her experience in water quality monitoring and community science while helping others understand the connection between healthy waterways, healthy communities, and healthy oceans.
